M104 is a strikingly beautiful galaxy, similar in size to the Milky Way. Seen edge on from our viewpoint, the most conspicuous feature is the dark brown dust lane passing through the equatorial bulge.
This galaxy lies at a distance of about 40 million light years and is a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster. It gets it's name from the resemblence to a Mexican sombrero in some images.
This image was a stack of 5 x 10 minute exposures with the MX716, combined with binned RGB color frames.
The image below was taken with the 4" astrograph and the MX716 camera. I don't normally display full sized images because of the download time but I thought it would be interesing just once to get a feel for what this little scope can do. The image was a stack of 4 x 10 minute exposures.
