Another common name for this flower is Cranesbill. Apparently someone seems to think that the seed pods left after the petals fall off look like the bills of cranes.
This is one of those images that just does not translate well to a small computer image so it requires a bit of background to get the idea.
This is a path through the woods that for several days every Spring, is ablaze in color from wild germaniums.
Nearly all of the foliage on both sides of this path is wild geranium with dozens of flowers on each plant. No matter how I tried to compose the picture, most of the flowers disappeared when I reduce the size to my 500 pixel wide standard.
